Ooh look: more TV voting.
The initial list is
here.
Some initial opinions:
Always Look on the Bright Side of Life. Pure class, no?
Axel F by Harold F was the first single I bought.
Brimful of Asher by Cornershop. I bought this one too.
My Toot Toot by Denise la Salle. Dreadful, but brings back childhood memories. Specifically, of the Radio 1 Roadshow. Am I alone in that?
Doctorin' the Tardis. I'd go for this, but I don't recognise The KLF as a one hit wonder.
Rock Me Amadeus by Falco.
Vienna Calling, anyone? Just me then?
Everybody's Free (To Wear Sunscreen). Advice for life almost on a par with that offered by Monty Python.
Shaddap Your Face. I don't know how old I was when this was number one - young enough to find it highly amusing though.
Groove is in the Heart. This was great. I know Deee-Lite had some others though. Can't for the life of me remember any, but I'm sure there were some. And whatever happened to Delight, the spready stuff for sarnies?
I'll Be There For You. I think the Rembrandts have made quite enough money from off of
Friends.
The One and Only - Chesney Hawkes. Worth a vote for pure irony value, surely?
Jilted John. And for that matter
Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps, brilliant new wavey oddball novelty songs. Although
Two Pints... should be re-released on the back of it getting played in Gene Simmonds' limo last week. Even better: a cover by Kiss?
Shampoo's
Trouble falls into the oddball novelty thing for me too. I think any song that rhymes 'trouble' with 'Space Shuttle' deserves to be an instant classic. But, contrary to whatever the Spice Girls may have told you, these girls invented girl power. Then disppeared, two-hit wonders.
Well, discounting those I know to have had second hits, there's seven I like, to whittle down to five before voting. I'll figure out which two to drop later.
